Taylor High School Choir and Band Departments Head to State

Posted on: March 14, 2017

On the weekend of March 10, the Taylor High School Symphonic Band headed to Harrison High School to perform in the OMEA District XIV band contest and the Taylor High School Choir hosted, and competed, in the OMEA District choir competition. It was more than an exciting week for the two fine arts departments as BOTH were awarded the honor of competing at the State level on April 29.

Up until this point, no current band students had made it to the State level; this all changed on March 10 after receiving a superior rating of a ‘1’. Not only is it the current students’ first trip to State, but this accomplishment has not taken place in well over 15 years at Taylor High School. When asked about the success of this year’s band students, Mr. Fitzpatric stated, “I am extremely proud of our students and all of their hard work to achieve such a high level of musicianship.”

Additionally, on the same weekend, Taylor Choir advanced to the State level as well. For the 3rd time in 4 years, all high school choirs have earned the scores needed to advance to State Competition. The Senior Choir earned a perfect score in Class A (the second most difficult class in which you can compete), the Women's Chorus earned a perfect score in Class B, and the Men's Chorus advanced to State in Class B (the previous years the Men's Chorus competed in Class C).

Both the choir and band departments are to be applauded for achieving this level of success.  Band Director, Erin Fitzpatric, and Choir Director, Bret Albright, set the bar high in the Taylor music program and the kids continue to surpass expectations.

For an opportunity to see these outstanding students perform on stage in Taylor’s auditorium, please join us on May 23 at 7:00 pm for a spring Choir Concert or May 24 at 7:00 pm for a spring Band Concert. These kids work hard and do not disappoint audiences at performances.
