Katie Ryan - Taylor High School Counselor

Cleves, September 2018 – Three Rivers Local School District teaches the value of good character to every student in grades PK-12. Three Rivers Elementary and Taylor Middle School partner with the Character Council to ensure that the foundation for good character is embedded into the curriculum.

Every year, the Character Council accept nominations for student and adult Heroes of Character. This year, Taylor High School Counselor, Katie Ryan was of those nominated. The nomination was submitted by her colleagues who believe Mrs. Ryan demonstrates outstanding character every day both inside and outside of the walls of Taylor High School. In the nomination, Counseling Secretary, Kim Kurzhals, states, “we have never met a person so driven and passionate about her life and the people in it.”

Mrs. Ryan has been a counselor at Taylor High School for fourteen years, helping students to prepare for the future. The nomination form explains extensively some personal tribulations Mrs. Ryan has had to overcome but goes onto explain how she stayed positive throughout. Matter of fact, it seems she uses these personal experiences to support students. Her colleague, Marla Heckman said, “She helps our students cope because she can truly empathize with them.”

Mrs. Ryan has been known to perform many selfless acts in an effort to help students. A Taylor High School student reflected on this saying, “Mrs. Ryan is a friend to all students and helps them with whatever they need.”

Between Mrs. Ryan’s uplifting character at home and at work, she has been honorably named as a 2018 Hero of Character by the Character Council! Mrs. Ryan will be recognized at the 2018 Heroes of Character Celebration on October 25, 2018.
