2 THS Students Named National Merit Finalists!

Posted on: February 18, 2022

In September, Taylor High School was notified that they had two National Merit commended scholars, Charlie Lange and Brandon McCollum. Taylor also had two National Merit Semifinalists, Lee Garber-Ford and Anthony Martini. As a National Merit Semifinalist, Anthony and Lee represent less than one percent of US high school senior students.

On February 16, 2022, Taylor High School received notification that Lee and Anthony are officially National Merit Finalists. The National Merit website states that to be considered for a National Merit Scholarship, Semifinalists must advance to Finalist standing in the competition by meeting high academic standards and all other requirements explained in the information provided to each Semifinalist. A variety of information is available for NMSC to evaluate: The Finalist's academic record, information about the school's curriculum and grading system, PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index score, the high school official's written recommendation, information about the student's activities, and leadership, and the Finalist's own essay.

When asked about the accomplishment, Taylor High School Principal, Mark Smiley, stated " We are very proud of Lee and Anthony for their academic achievements and for the prestigious honor of being named National Merit Finalists!  Lee and Tony are fine ambassadors for Taylor High School, whose scholarship, service, and character exemplify our district goal of student success. Their recognition is also an excellent example of the academic programming and opportunities available for our students in the Three Rivers Local School District and has set a high standard for future students to strive to achieve. Congratulations to both Lee and Tony!"
