THANK YOU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

Every year, the APT (Academic Program for the Talented) in the Three Rivers School District competes in a creative problem solving competition called Destination Imagination (DI).  DI is a global organization that promotes STEM (Science, technology, engineering, and math) principles, creativity, teamwork and problem solving in students.  Over 125,000 students from across the US and over 30 countries participate every year (www.idodi.org).

Students are entirely self-directed as they work together to conduct research, create presentations, and solve building challenges for the competition.  They are also required to compete in an “instant challenge” which tests their teamwork, creativity and problem solving in a spontaneous and un-scripted venue.

This year, our Three Rivers APT program is sending one team to the global finals tournament at the University of Tennessee.  Region 18, which covers all of southwest Ohio, is sending a total of five teams and we are one of them!  This 6th grade team has qualified by earning second place at the state level in the structure division against mostly 7th and 8th grade teams!  Their achievements not only benefit the students directly involved, but also serve as a point of pride for our APT program, schools and the Three Rivers community.

To support this fantastic opportunity, the Taylor Alumni Association graciously donated a $2,000 check to help off-set the $750 per child expense of the tournament. Thank you to the entire association and to Treasurer, Bob Kent and President, Danny Stacy for personally taking time out of their day to present the donation to the students.
