State law requires all dogs to be licensed through the County Auditor’s Office, but this year, Hamilton County found a creative way to make the process both educational and fun. As part of its annual effort to promote dog licensing, the Hamilton County Auditor’s Office invited 4th grade students across the county to participate in the Top Dog Essay Contest—a writing challenge encouraging students to craft a 1–3 paragraph essay responding to one of three imaginative prompts.

Three Rivers Local School District is proud to announce that 2 4th grade students from Mrs. Farris’ class not only participated with enthusiasm—but also excelled. Elliot Wahl earned First Place in the entire countywide contest, and Lola Brisbin received an Honorable Mention for her outstanding submission.

To celebrate their achievements, representatives from the Hamilton County Auditor’s Office and partner agencies visited Elliot and Lola’s classroom to announce the exciting news.

Three Rivers was honored to host these visitors and immensely proud of Elliot and Lola for their creativity, hard work, and recognition at the county level. Their success not only highlights strong writing skills but also showcases how engaging learning experiences can inspire students to think creatively, advocate responsibly, and celebrate the importance of responsible pet ownership.
