On 3/11/2020 at 2:20 pm, Governor Mike DeWine conducted a news conference regarding a COVID-19 update for Ohio. During this conference, Dr. Amy Acton explained the overall concern, response, and plan for the virus as it progresses in the State of Ohio. They are going to continue to follow CDC’s guidelines as they make decisions in the coming days and weeks. This conference came as a result of a rise in concern in Ohio as there are currently twenty-four individuals being investigated for possible COVID-19, with a recent fourth confirmed case of a male in his mid-fifties from Stark County. The individual did not travel to any outside areas and had no known contact with another positive Coronavirus case.

Governor DeWine explained that COVID-19 having a local impact is expected. In regards to what this means for K-12 schools, they are not at the point of recommending school closures at this time. However, it is something they are continuing to monitor and have stated that they will work to waive State requirements in regards to any testing this would affect.

Governor DeWine also spoke to the concern with "mass gatherings". He said if gatherings are not “necessary” we should avoid them. In regards to how dangerous they are, he explained that the larger the crowd and closer in proximity people are, the larger the risk.

Governor DeWine also explained that they know things will get worse before they get better, so it will be our responsibility to monitor their communications closely and keep our families and community up to date. We are going to follow all recommendations from the Governor’s office as they are the experts and we want to do everything we can to keep everyone as safe and as healthy as possible. Governor DeWine explained that this is not the time to “take risks.”

In regards to Three Rivers Local School Districts, we have made the decision to POSTPONE all activities that are outside of school hours and indoor until April 1, 2020. All field trips during this period of time (3/11/20 – 4/1/20) have also been postponed if possible or canceled if postponing is not an option. All Three Rivers athletic indoor practices are canceled, including drama; all Taylor outdoor practices will continue as normal. Outside organizations that utilize our indoor and outdoor facilities are not permitted to be on campus until after April 1st. For any questions regarding events that are postponed through April 1st, please email the District Director of Communications at lwhiteley@trlsd.org.

We will continue to follow CDC’s website, Hamilton County Public Health and updates from Governor DeWine as we make decisions moving forward. We appreciate the entire community’s support as we work together to keep everyone healthy.
