Come, Relax, Read

Miami Heights students are comfortable and ready to read in the library (above). Mrs. Pieczonka applied for and was awarded a Learning Links grant from the Greater Cincinnati Foundation, titled "Home is where you put your stuff".

Mrs. Pieczonka believes that students should feel like school is their second home. The goal is to provide a safe and comfortable environment that promotes an 'eager to learn' attitude. To that end, Mrs. Pieczonka wanted to make the library more conducive to this attitude by offering cozy seating area that would encourage our youngest learners to settle in and enjoy reading.

In Mrs. Pieczonka's own words:

"The library is where we want to interest the youngest people in the district to become 'book-a-holics' and mature into voracious readers. We want to make the area inviting, a place that says come, relax, and read."

The grant afforded Mrs. Pieczonka with the funds to purchase bean bags for the library, and the results have been great so far!

TAYLOR MARCHING BAND SUCCESSFUL START TO SEASON

The Taylor Marching Band has performed in three parades and several varsity football games and recently began its competition season.    At Lockland High School on October 2nd and again at The Ohio State University on October 16th, the Taylor Marching Yellowjackets earned a rating of "Excellent" in events sponsored by the Ohio Music Educators Association.  The band also performed at LaSalle HS on October 9th; the competitive scores earned by the Taylor band so far this season are the highest by the Taylor band in over 5 years.    It was a great opportunity for our students to represent Three Rivers in front of thousands of spectators at "The Shoe" at Ohio State last weekend.

Next on the band's calendar are appearances at Colerain HS on October 30th and Kings HS on November 6th, and of course the final two varsity home games at Taylor.

The band's busy calendar includes much more than just marching band activities; the band also appears at the November 10th Veteran's Day program at Taylor; the Cleves Christmas Walk on December 4th; and the band will perform for a huge international audience at Walt Disney World's Epcot Center in Orlando on Sunday, November 21st, and will present a public concert of holiday music in the Taylor auditorium on December 21st at 7:30 pm.

The Taylor band continues to do a great job of representing Three Rivers in performances around the state and across the country.   Their dedication and long hours of work show that they are among the hardest-working young people in our school; it's a privilege for me to work with some the most outstanding ladies & gentlemen in our school district.
